Question: Hello, Yulia. Thank you for agreeing to this interview

Answer: Hello!

Question: You are a very beautiful young lady; it is difficult to believe that you have any problem attracting the attention of men?

Answer: I have never been deprived of boy’s attention in childhood,or men’s attention in mature age, but it doesn’t mean that I have met the right man for myself.

Question: When did you decide to register to an international dating agency?

Answer: Probably my destiny lies abroad, not in my country. Are there any other ways to find him? Only through international dating and marriage agencies. I have heard a lot successful stories of how Ukrainian women marry foreign men. So I decided to take my chance and try.

Question: Was it something you did spontaneously, or did you consider this cautiously?

Answer: It was an unexpected decision. I often do some things spontaneously, following my impulse, but considering later this decision I have never complained about it, and I think I will not complain about it in the future either!

Question: Was it an easy decision to take, seeking your soul mate Internationally?

Answer: Why not? If he will really be my second half then it doesn’t matter where he lives, or from what country and culture.

Question: Many ladies in The Ukraine are very suspicious, or even frightened of seeking a man from the West. Do you also have some fears?

Answer: I think it is normal to have fears and suspicions. Who knows he can be a maniac… I overstate of course, but…. I heard only positive stories from my friends. The stories of how they found their love in another country and still do not complain that they decided to search their second half through the marriage agencies.

Question: Do you know that many western men are very mistrustful, or doubtful of finding a genuine and sincere Ukraine lady? Have you heard these stories?

Answer: I understand their mistrust and fears. There are a big number of marriage agencies, which just cheat and swindle money from the pockets of foreign men, but, definitely there are still a lot of women that wish to meet a foreigner to build a serious relationship and family life and to move to his country. More and more women become disappointed with Ukrainian men. We are not protected from bad situations and always can happen something we didn’t consider, or didn’t expect. So do not stop on bad thoughts, just make another step for a new life and new opportunities.

Question: Please tell me; from you point of view as a Ukrainian Lady do you think you can find a loving, caring and respectful man from a foreign country?

Answer: I don’t think if the man is from another country it means that he is different. I am sure there are a lot of decent, intelligent and nice men abroad, it is why I want to find one for myself.

Question: Have you personally heard of some very frightening stories? Of terrible things happening to Ukraine ladies, on moving to a foreign country?

Answer: Yes, I have watched some programs on TV, but I keep the opinion. He who doesn’t take a risk, will not find his happiness.

Question: But you are willing to try anyway?

Answer: As I mentioned before the bad stories in relationships with Ukrainian man can happen also, but we do not stop, we stand up and go forward for another adventure in dating and marriage. Relationships internationally between man and woman are the same story.

Question: You are an exceptionally beautiful lady. As a programmer, do you feel that you have a Greater possibility of success outside of the Ukraine?

Answer: Yes. I think that as a programmer I have good opportunities abroad. Now I graduate the Polytechnic University in Poltava and then I want to try myself in this field and I don’t want to limit myself to only seeking my future to within Ukrainian borders. It is important to have a strong wish and the persistence to achieve your goal.

Question: For me The Ukraine is an enigma, very beautiful, many very educated and intelligent people, it seems to have so much potential and yet life seems very hard.Is it getting better? Do you feel life is improving within the Ukraine?

Answer: Yes the Ukraine develops and life becomes better and easier. We do not notice this, because the changes come very slowly.

Question: Why do you think Russian women are so popular with men from around the world?

Answer: It is well known fact that Slavic women are very beautiful, also they are good wives, we put in the first place the family’s values and only after this, career development. We have a particular feature, at the same time that we are keeping and caring about our family, we develop our career. I think a Slavic woman is a dream for any man!

Question: What do you know of life outside of The Ukraine? Have you informed yourself in any way as to the way of life in any foreign countries?

Answer: I know that life isn’t easy outside Ukraine also, but there is more clearity and foresight than here.

Question: Do you have any favorite destination, any country from which you hope to find your man?

Answer: I don’t have any preferences. Only I want him to be a nice person.

Question: What is the first thing that you look at in a man’s profile? His photo, personality type, age etc?

Answer: I look at his age first, then his photo and then his features of character.

Question: Why do you think so many ladies are interested in finding a man from another country? Please give me your opinion.

Answer: We Dream about a happy life! After several disappointments with Ukrainian men and the Ukrainian government, women are looking for happiness abroad. They say: “the better place is, where we are not”. I hope that happiness will be always with me, wherever I will go.

Question: Ok, you have found your other half and he has found you, do you think it will be easy, or difficult starting your new life in a foreign country?

Answer: It is normal to meet difficulties in another country, but if my beloved man will be with me, then we will create our own World and overcome all troubles together! Just believe and go ahead! Our happiness depends only upon us.

Attracting the attention of men?

Answer: I don’t have difficult to get acquainted with men and attract their attention. But I have claims to men! In my country men fear beautiful, attractive women and afraid of taking financial responsibility for family and bringing up children. I am interested to know the opinion of Western men. What are their values and priorities?

Question. When did you decide to register to a international dating agency?

Answer: I believe that registering in dating agency I’ll have a chance to change my life and life of my child. And first of all I trust this agency!

Answer: At first it was unexpected decision but then I’ve considered this step more seriously and with hope.

Answer: I guess I came to this decision getting more life experience. Now I know exactly what I need and what I want.

Answer: Yes, of course I have because there is another country, mentality, traditions and first of all language barrier. I bring up my little daughter by myself and I am responsible for her fate. If I take big decision in my life then there is also decision of her life too. It is a serious step in my life to seek man abroad and the fears exist here.

Question. Do you know that many western men are very mistrustful, or doubtful of finding
a genuine and sincere Ukraine lady? Have you heard these stories?

Answer: Yes, I heard such stories concerning deceptions and suspicion on Ukrainian ladies. And also there are some cases vice versa, when lies and cruelty of foreign men towards Ukrainian women. Unfortunately mistrust and doubts of both sides undermine the trust to each other. I am sure there are good people in each country, who are looking for their second half, despite everything they create strong and happy family relationships.

Question. Please tell me, from the point of view of a Ukrainian Lady do you think you can
Find a loving, caring and respectful man from a foreign country?

Answer: I think there are very possible to find loving, caring and respectful man abroad. I believe the real men exist, who are worth being happy and give back a lot to the Lady of their dream.

Question. Have you personally heard of some very frightening stories? Of terrible things
Happening to Ukraine ladies, on moving to a foreign country?

Answer: I heard more positive good stories, then bad ones. I heard about clever, intelligent, interesting men, who according their intelligence couldn’t treat badly or deceive.

Question. But you are willing to try anyway?

Answer: I am interested in learning and acquaintance with Western men. It is difficult to live without belief in better and bright future.

Question. You are a an exceptionally beautiful lady. As a manicure stylist, do you feel that you have a Greater possibility of success outside of Ukraine?

Answer: I think why not. Of course I wouldn’t like to be only a housewife. It doesn’t suit to my character. I’d like to combine work and family duties. But if there is loving, understanding man by my side, who relates to me not only as for housewife, then I guess together we have all chances to succeed.

Question. For me The Ukraine is a enigma, very beautiful, many very educated and

Answer: Ukraine becomes more democratic country and youth build future of our country! We try making life easier here, but at this moment it is managed hardly.

Answer. Hello. It’s pleasure for me.

Question. You are a very beautiful young lady; it is difficult to believe you have any problem Attracting the attention of men?

Answer. I have no problems with attracting attention, but, I have a rule – the more you communicate with people, the better it is for you. So I am here to communicate.

Question. When did you decide to register to an international dating agency?

Answer. I decided to search new people for communication. I know for sure that if you see people, communicate with them, you have more chances to find the person you can fall in love with.

Question. Was it something you did spontaneously, or did you consider this cautiously?

Answer. I thought for a while before taking this action, so it was a very important step for me.

Question. Was it an easy decision to take, seeking your soul mate internationally?

Answer. It’s easy to answer this question – I like adventures. You know, it’s so funny – to communicate with somebody who speaks different language, has other ideas about life… It’s great and as I have already said, I like new experiences, so, why not? Maybe I will find somebody. Maybe I will even fall in love. I am looking for Love in this life. Otherwise its worthless.

Question. Many ladies in The Ukraine are very suspicious, or even frightened of seeking a man from the West. Do you also have some fears?

Answer. I think all of us have fears. It’s natural. If the person doesn’t fear anything it is strange, isn’t it? Of course I know about bad incidents that happened to women who wanted to find their soul mates abroad, but I think they were rather exceptions to the rule. You know we have a proverb – the person who is scared of his shadow can’t see other people. So what? I want to live, to enjoy this life, it’s every moment… Will I enjoy it if I am afraid of everything? I guess, not…

Question. Do you know that many western men are very mistrustful, or doubtful of finding A genuine and sincere Ukraine lady? Have you you heard these stories?

Answer. I can’t agree with this point of view. I heard a lot of good opinions about Ukrainian women. Usually western men like Ukrainian women. I can tell you why. We are beautiful, kind, caring. We cook tasty meals, take care about our partners and children. And, what is more – we are not career oriented!!! The most important thing for each Ukrainian woman is family. For me also well and I can’t understand how any western man could have ever said a bad thing… Maybe these western men had bad experiences, thats why they don’t believe…

Answer. I think everything is possible. Many Americans and Europeans come every year to Ukraine. I think some of them find their soul mates, some not. It depends on the person, circumstances, destiny… You know many factors matter…

Answer. Our television broadcast many horror films. But it doesn’t mean that you should be afraid of everything. I don’t know of people who experienced this, but I heard a lot…

Answer. Yes, I like adventures…

Answer. I don’t think that it’s only beauty that will have success. Beauty is like a flower. It fades one day. But there are many other qualities that are important in each personality. For example, I want to develop myself in many directions.

Answer. Yes. Life is improving step by step. But not many people believe.

Question. Why do you think are so popular with men from around the world?

Answer. Women are women anyway. They strive for happiness.

Question. What do you know of life outside of The Ukraine? Have you informed yourself in any way as to the way of life in any foreign countries?

Answer. Yes, I know how life is going outside Ukraine. I can see it in the movies and TV programs. We live in the modern society, not in the middle ages… Of course I am very well informed.

Question. Do you have any favorite destination, any country that you hope to find your man from?

Answer. For me it’s the man, not the place that matters. Of course I dream about such romantic counties as France, Italy, or Spain. But it doesn’t matter indeed.

Question. Which comes first in your considerations, your decision making in finding your other half? The country or the man?

Answer. The man of course.

Answer. I look carefully about all things. I think that it’s very important to see a photo. You know whom are you communicating with.

Answer. You know, every woman grew up with a silly fairy-tale about Cinderella in her mind. That’s why we are looking for our prince…. And if we can’t find them around us, we are looking in other countries. It’s natural.

Answer. Life can be easy. Especially if it is shared by two people who want to live it together. I think people should be sincere with each other.

There is nothing more enticing or alluring than the prospect of finding that one true love. Perhaps the only thing better could be true love with a catwalk model. For thousands of forlorn, abandoned, rejected or just fed up with feminism’ men in Western Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia, all trails seem to ‘lead eastward’ as they search for the love of their life. The marriage agency business in Ukraine is booming. It was born shortly the fall of the wall, but received its biggest infusion of life about 7 years ago with the rise in popularity of the Internet.

Ukraine is second after Russia in numbers of women using the Internet superhighway to find love and romance and, perhaps, a better life. But how many of these women are for real? How many wants love, marriage and a little one in a baby carriage? Surprisingly enough after talking with a cross-section of men recently arrived in Kyiv from Western Europe, the USA and Canada on marriage tours, not as many as you would think are interested in pur?suing marriage. These men, who had been cor?responding with the woman of ‘their dreams’ for many months, were dismayed to find that once on the ground in Ukraine, a different story was on the verge of ruining their fairytale quest for a Slavic princess. There were three com?plaints this reporter heard from all but two of the men. Number one:

I. The girl said she had second thoughts and didn’t want to get married so soon.

2. The girl said she had no plans to leave Ukraine.

3. The girl ‘appeared’ interested only in going out and having a good time.

“It was just a bit strange to me,” says Curtis, a computer programmer from San Jose California. Curtis had been corresponding with a girl named Svetlana in Kyiv for about 6 months before deciding to take the plunge. “Everything appears o.k. on the surface, but when I want to talk about specifics, plans for the future, she backs off. I mean I am only here for 7 days, I don’t have a long time to put things together, it was really kind of frustrating,” he says. Curtis also says the passion and heartfelt feelings that were in the emails and letters before his arrival were missing in the face to face contact. “There was something peculiar about our first and second meetings. I didn’t get the impression that I was talking to the same girl I had been writing to for a half of a year. She said she didn’t want to get married so soon and that she was nervous about relocating to the USA,” said Curtis. Those two points are the sticklers. Yes, marriage is a big step, and one should be a little nervous about broaching the subject, but shouldn’t that be a consideration before a person enlists the services of a marriage agency, not after the guy you have been writing ‘sweet nothings’ to shows up at Boryspil Airport?

The first two points were put to American businessman and longtime Kyiv resident Mr. Brett Ousley, himself President of Kiev Connections. “I am a single guy, and have used agencies in the past, and some of the problems mentioned are what led me to open up my own agency”, he says. Brett says many of the plethora of agencies in Ukraine are in the business to collect and sell as many names and addresses as they can. This ‘killing the golden goose’ mentality in the marriage agency business is bad for the legitimate operations who genuinely try to match the appropriate people for a solid relationship. “I remember this one time, years ago, I was on a date with a girl from some agency in town,” says Ousley, “and after I pick her up we start walking to this cafe in order to get to know each other better. As we are walking, she nonchalantly blurts out that she can not be out late because her husband will be home in a while”. Needless to say, Ousley politely ducked out. “She was amazing, she like said I hope this doesn’t preclude us going out tonight? I said well, ‘what’s the point’, see ya later,” says the disgusted bride hunter.

Ousley says this experience was such a shocker that it has helped form a cornerstone of his operation. Through screening of the applicants, his suspicions were well founded. What some people don’t consider as that this is a ‘win win’ situation for the ladies,” says Ousley. “It costs them nothing. The risk is the man’s. She waits for the agency to call, or she collects the letters, gifts and dates all for free, while the man uses his one vacation a year, buys a ticket, lodgings in Kyiv and lays his heart on the line, so that is why we make sure our girls are on the level,” says Ousley. Ousley says that he periodically reviews a girl’s status, and that some are reject?ed, or removed from his roster if they are found to be just in the game for a good time and not serious. Another agency that specializes in personalized matchmaking is the Mordinson Agency of Kharkiv. Mordinson is a premium agency specializing in some of ‘the most attractive women in the Kharkiv region, and goes to the trouble of listing it’s success stories on the web site, with actual photos of the couples it has produced. “Our girls are all interested in getting married and we go to the trouble of individually tailoring a program for the man who is visiting, so he feels special and the process goes smoothly,” says representative Darya Mordinson. “We don’t conduct these uncomfortable ‘meat-market’ socials that some of the bigger agencies conduct,” she says of the classic marriage agency meets where ten guys will find themselves facing a room full of up to sixty girls. “The meetings we offer are all individual and only with girls or women who are definitely interested in the man so that disappointment is who have dealt with the mass marketers of names and addresses. You can tell such sites right away when you load up their page on your browser. You see about ten to fifteen photos per page, nearly identical wording on the bios, normally only credit card payment info and no one person’s name at the top who you can talk to if you have a problem. If you are surfing for an agency, a sign that one is more credible than others would be the listing of a phone number and a manager’s name. This tells you there is someone accountable, and if possible before you send any money or write any romantic thoughts, spend the dollar it costs per minute for the long distance call from abroad and touch base with the manager. From your conversation you will be able to tell if this is a ‘take the money and run’ operation or one that will work with you in attempting to find the match of a lifetime. The address sellers are the weak link in the marriage agency chain.

Marriage agencies do attract negative publicity, and are still seen as somewhat exploitative, but it is worth remembering that they exist everywhere. However, the financial differentials between Western husbands and Slavic brides has left the practice open to attack. In the late 1990s a feminist legislator from Washington State proposed a law wherein background checks should be required of men enlisting the services of a marriage agency overseas. Allegedly responding to cases wherein eastern European and Asian women were bought as mail order brides and abandoned or abused in the United States, the legislation was thrown out, largely due to the lack of concrete cases of abuses. In fact, many agencies make a point of listing success stories of ‘happy ever after’ couples on their sites, and guard against getting involved with any Western client deemed ‘undesirable’.

In general, potential bride hunters should be careful when choosing an agency and ask those sensitive tough questions before hopping on a plane or forking out a lot of money for that one ‘special girl’. There are many genuine ladies looking for long-term involvement, but there are also many girls more excited by the prospect of ‘no strings’ fun with comparatively well-off foreign man. the girls wanting money or free ticket to a western country as a bride. Over the last decade there has been a rise in Ukrainian scammers targeting men from the west, particularly the US. How do these scams work?

However it should be noted that not all Ukrainian women are scammers, the vast majority of them are genuine women searching for love and romance with Western men .Most of them are seeking a happy relationship or marriage with compatible partner. It is the minority that cause these women to be associated with the name “Ukrainian scammers”

The typical Ukrainian dating scam starts with the victim receiving a response to his personal ad. Often the scammer will use stolen photos of some super model looking girl, men will in general find it hard to resist, often the girl will be much younger, and the victim cannot believe his luck. The man almost certainly gets excited by the thought of a beautiful Ukrainian woman taking interest in him, and out the window goes his thinking process.

The usual story is after sending and receiving a few emails the scammer will claim to be madly in love with the man, often she will then send some semi-nude photos to further the man’s desire for her. A few days or weeks later she will claim she cannot live without him and wishes to come to his country immediately, but there is always a problem, she has no money for tickets or a visa. Usually the man is so desperate to see her at this stage he will agree to anything, at which point the scammer will suggest sending the money by wire transfer so she can go and buy a ticket.

What the clueless man does not know is that he might not even be communicating with a woman often it will be a man using a women’s stolen identity or a member of a scammers ring. The end of the story is usually the same; the man will send the money and never hear from the scammer again. Needless to say, he ends up losing his money, with a bruised ego to go with it. Often men will not report the scammer for fear of being laughed at by friends or family.
